Measles Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
Measles. Mumps and Rubella are all highly infectious viral infections, which are present worldwide. The viruses are spread through tiny droplets when someone coughs or sneezes or by touching surfaces that have the droplets & putting your hand near your nose or mouth. Symptoms usually develop in 7-18 days for measles, 14-25 days for mumps and 14-21 days for rubella. Treatment is usually just for symptoms.
Prevention
Vaccination is recommended for prevention of measles, mumps and rubella.
Symptoms
Symptoms of measles include:
- High temperature up to 40
- Cough and cold symptoms
- Sore red eyes that can be sensitive to light
- Small grey/white spots on the inside of the cheeks, following which a red/brown blotchy rash will develop a few days later than will spread from the head & neck to the rest of the body.
Symptoms of mumps include:
- Painful swelling of the parotid glands that are at the side of the face under the ears
- High temperature
- Headaches
- Joint Pain
Symptoms of rubella include:
- High temperature
- Red or pink spotty rash that spreads from behind the ears
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Cough and cold symptoms
- Sore red eyes
- Joint pains
MMR Vaccination
Vaccine: MMRVaxPro or Priorix.
Schedule
Course of 2 vaccines, 1 month apart.
